Happy New Year!

It's only 11:10pm here but I celebrate with the east coast so I can go to bed. Is that sad or what. I've always prefered a night in my PJ's with Dick Clark to having beer poured on me and being hugged by complete strangers. God am I boring.
I've thought a lot about resolutions for 2006. Since I completed the biggie last year by quittting smoking I guess all I have left is getting back in shape. I plan to make that happen by training for a half marathon coming up on April 29th. Since I've already slapped down the entry fee I know I'll do it as I hate to waste money. Other than that I resolve to finish all the projects I have planned for the house.
Happy New Year everyone..... tomorrow I have to practice writing 2006 for my checks.

The Kids

I love this picture because Ben is being himself.
I'll send the set to everyone from work tomorrow

My Favorite Present!

I'm not normally one to have a favorite present but this year I definitely do. Not that I don't love everything. My Nana made me a gorgous purse and having sewed Christmas gifts before I appreciate the time and thought that went into it. My Dad picked me out the miter saw that I asked for as I am delving into home improvement thanks to Crack TV (HGTV). My Mom bought me the orange crocs I wanted to wear doing yard work, and my sister fed the knitting addiction that she passed on to me with a huge stash of yarn and a great book. My niece even got me a folk art cow for my collection.
While all these gifts are great, and I love them all, my favorite gift came from my B.I.L., Ed. Ed works harder than just about anyone I know, and doesn't get a whole lot of time off. So when he does he like to relax and go hunting or fishing. This year however he used 2 of his days to take care of Ben, do laundry, and pick up the house so my sister and I could have 2 days together. We had time to shop, and lunch, and tell each other secrets. Things I miss more than anything.
So Ed, thank you for my favorite present, time with my sister. I love you Bro!

What a wonderful Christmas

Here is Meg in here sweater. She seemed to like it. I also knit her a shrug, and I knit her boyfriend Troy a "Dread Tam", as he has shoulder length dreadlocks. I was very spoiled this Christmas. I got a beautiful cake plate with a cover to stay on my counter with goodies in it (Mom), a furry vest (Mom), a handmade purse (Nana). Yarn gift certificate (Shell), 2 knitting books, "Folk Shawls", and "The Art of Fair Isle Knitting"(Ed and the kids). I have already ordered my yarn with my cert. Jade Sapphire Cashmere lace weight yarn for a shawl *squealing with excitement*. Dad, Mom and Nan also gave us some $. Shell gave me a vintage eyeglass case, which I will keep needles in. Bath yummies, socks, and lots of things I know I'm forgetting. I loved it all. Thanks you everyone! Steph

Don't forget!

And they were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.
And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

Snaps! (click on pics to make them larger)

The new roof, ala "Katrina". The color is more brown, and it was done architectural style. We are very pleased. Boring, I know, but I wanted my Mom and Dad to see it!
Here's Ed trying to nap. Ever since he turned 50 last week, he seems to be practicing the old guy routine. Notice 4 of our 6 cats. We adore our animals, and Ed gets just stupid over them. Tigger, large yellow, Lurlene, calico, and of course Abner and Oink. (Ernie and Penelope are the only two that go outside, so they must have been on a "hunt") oops, no, on second look, that's Ernie in the background (black and white). Also, notice the crochet blanket. My Dad made it when he was a little boy, sick in bed. I so dig that about him, as he's this big burley "guys guy".
Here's Megs sweater. You cant really see the detail I know. I'm not thrilled with it. I used wool ease, and I think I should have used a lighter yarn, with a better drape. It's just so bulky.

Knitting like a mad woman!

Meghans sweater is almost done. I started it 6 months ago, but put it down (kiss of death with my projects). I'll post a picture when done. Shopping is done. Kyle wanted a surfboard, which he is not getting. Too many shark attacks for this Moms taste.

So glad to here from my cousin Kendell. We have a very small family, and unfortunately we have kind of lost touch. Kendell..Meghan is in College, Kyle in High School, and Benjamin is in the third grade. You must come visit. I remember you being handsome and single, so girls, the line forms to the left, no pushing (smile). I had a great time with your sister and mother. Kim is such a scream. I love funny people, and if I don't laugh till I pee at least once a day, I feel ripped off!

Shell, drive safe from the "Ville".
Merry Christmas,

The Gift Olympics

My sister and I have a running joke about trying to best each other with our parents Christmas gifts. I was in the lead several years ago (for what I can’t remember) but Stephanie is now reigning champ after giving my parents an outdoor fireplace for the porch. Mom has always wanted a fireplace. In fact it is one of the few things I can remember her ever saying she REALLY wanted. So Steph stomped me that year and I haven’t stepped up to dethrone her.
I love this time of year for one reason, I love to give presents. I especially love to buy presents for my sister as we are so opposite in out tastes that I feel like I’m buying for the anti-Shelly. She is pink and roses and Chintz and teacups and I’m primitive and natural and soooooooooo not pink. When she points out things she likes I think “really? you like that?” So shopping for her takes me to my hidden frilly side that I only get in touch with once a year. This year I found so many things that she HAD TO HAVE that it made it hard to put things back. There is infinitely more “Stephanie stuff” to buy than “Shelly stuff”.
So now that I’ve probably said enough to drive her crazy I’ll sign off.
PS to Steph – I opened a new peanut butter and got the smooth!

No Lampshade for Me!

Last night was my office Christmas party. Well actually it was the office I used to work for, but still fill in occasionally. Man, can these chicks party. I stopped drinking a couple of years ago, as I usually end up in the fetal position, clutching the bottle (joke), but in all honesty, no one likes a weepy drunk. I love to watch people drink though. They start off all stiff, and formal, and by the end of the night everyone's discussing their sex lives etc. What a hoot. I spent the last hour in the kitchen cleaning up. I'm such a stick in the mud. I just like to be at home, knitting, or posting on Craftster. All in all it was fun. We played dirty Santa. People kill me. They want something "good". Dirty Santa is supposed to be fun. I like the "rubber dog do" gifts, but I tend to have the sense of humor of a 12 year old boy.

Craftster people also crack me up. The user names are so interesting. Like why would you be "Sexysue", or "Hothanna". I mean its Craftster people. Maybe I should change my user name to "zerosexdrivesteph", or "Lazylabidolady". I don't know, just a thought. By the way, my user name is "Graciepetunia" after my beloved Great Dane that is now an angel in heaven.

Shell, I'll give you Blog lessons next week. I cant wait to see you.

Look Mom, we're sharing!

Shelly and I have decided to share a blog. Have a little place to update our friends and family to what's happening in our lives. I feel certain that my life will be the more exciting of the two, but we'll see. After all what's sexier than a middle aged, overweight housewife! OK enough bragging. More later. This is going to be fun..oh and Shell, I was first..haha
